We have two gerbils only been having them for two weeks.... Just saw that one of then has what looks like dried blood and the fur is gone from the tip to about 2 inches down the tail. This was not there last night.. As far as I know they(we have two)were not fighting and have not been fighting.. The wound is fairly large but does not have any open cuts that I can see.. I am looking right now for a vet that treats Gerbils and Have a call into the local Universty for assistence.
If anyone out there would have any idea what could have happened and how to treat it until I find a vet I sure would appricate it.. By the way he is not acting like anything is wrong he is playing and eating an climbimg all over his cage as normal!!
Thank You!!

Gerbils and hamsters are solitary animals. Unless you are positive that they are opposite genders, you need to separate them or they will eat each other eventually. Trust me. I've had a million gerbils and hamsters in my life and I've seen the aftermath of keeping them together. If the other one did bite, he was probably trying to establish dominance, and has succeeded. Watch them carefully.
