The fact that Lindy took the Sabres to game 7 without 3 of his top 6 defencemen and 1 of his top 6 forwards is a testament to what kind of coach Lindy is.
The fact that if not for the over the glass rule (which is dumb by the way) the Sabres may have actually won game 7 and then the cup, is also a testament to Lindy's skill.
He also surprised everyone by keeping up with Ottawa during the regular season.
Honestly, either guy could have won it really and no harm would have been done in my opinion.

I completely disagree and here is why. Look at the team Buffalo has and then look at the team Carolina has. The Canes have Stall,Recchi,Weight, old man Rod and Erik Cole (yes i know he was hurt) needless to say they have a few hall of famers and Stall if he keeps up his play will also be one. Name Hall of Fame caliber players on the Sabres. Exactly. Another point is the Canes finished the season just 2 points ahead of Buffalo. Now look at the conferences both teams play in. Buffalo was in a division with 3 (including Buffalo) playoff teams including the #1 seed . Carolina was in a division with 2 counting themselves as 1 and the other team who made it was the #8 seed. Buffalo was also missing there best forward in Briere for almost half the season and missed Connolly for a good portion. With that said Lindy Ruff DID deserve coach of the year. Then Buffalo took Carolina to 7 games which all were close without there 3 of there top defensemen who were filled in by guys who didnt play a game all year and Connolly arguably there most gifted forward.
Oh and by the way Ruff did all this while his daughter had a very serious and life threatening brain tumor.

Both coaches did an excellent job this season. I think Lindy Ruff is very deserving of the award.
Buffalo is in a tough division. However, keep in mind that 3 out of the last 4 Eastern Conference Champions have been from the Southeast.
No matter how many "If" scenarios you want to present concerning how the playoffs turned out, the Stanley Cup resides in North Carolina!

Well, as silly as it sounds, coach of the year isn't about coach of the President Trophy's team or coach of the Stanley Cup winning team. It is about which coach handled their year the best. I can't say Ruff or Laviolette was truly the best as I didn't follow them closely enough, but I'm sure the voters had their reasons-

if Williams didn't take out Koivu ( i know it was by mistake but you need full control of your stick and he didn't and took out Koivu) Carolina wouldn't of made the second round. and yes i know they made the finals which is very lucky and were very lucky that Roloson got injured, cause the Oilers would of won the Cup with Roloson.
don't get me wrong Stall is a great young player and will only get better, and for Cam Ward know he is the real deal, he deserved the Conn Smyth cause he is the one that did it all for the Canes.
but remember that the Canes wouldn't of even past the first round if it wasn't for Koivu getting injured and if you don't understand that its because you don't really understand the game it self, and I'm not saying the Habs were going to win the Cup, but they would of finished off the Canes for sure.
and for the coach they could of split the decision and give it to both cause they both coach a great season.
