I think Pete Rose is a jerk; he also was one of the all time great players. There is no question he had a hall of fame career AS A PLAYER, which is how I think he should be judged. I thnk that even though he turned out to be a greedy liar as a manager, shouldn't affect how he is judged as a player, only as a manager. People go into the HOF as players, or managers, they don't have to go in as both. Look at Torre, he did not have a HOF career as a player, but he'll be going as a manager.
I believe that the great players, people who hold records they gained honestly, without drugs, belong in the HOF, regardless of what they did after their playing days were over.

Good luck with that. I admire Pete Rose as a ball player. Charlie Hustle and all that. Still the all time AB and Hits leader and he did it w/o taking steroids or HGH. He just played hard, every day, for his entire career. He should be in the HOF for his ballplaying numbers. Unfortunately, because he broke a cardinal rule of baseball and lied about it and was banned from baseball, he'll probably never make it in. Too bad. I say let him into the HOF but not into baseball in any capacity (ownership, player, manager, coach, bat boy, ball boy, clubhouse boy, etc.)

You may not like Rose as a person, but for what he did while playing the game was great. I am still all for getting Pete in the Hall of Fame as a player. Atleast he wasn't roiding up.

Hate is a strong word. I don't hate Pete Rose. I liked him as a player but it is very dissappointing to have a baseball player not appreciate the privelage of being paid, and paid well, to play a game. I would trade places with him in a second but I would not have bet on the game. It's hard to understand.

I have mixed emotions about him.
As a person, I don't think he's any sort of prize.
As a ball player, he was damn good but I think he had 2 sides. He was an intense competitor & a skilled/knowledgeable player. Now this is my opinion, he could be a d*ck. That hit at home plate on Ray Fosse in the 1970 All Star Game was totally unnecessary.

He may not be the brightest bulb in the bunch but who ever said you had to be smart to be an athlete.
He is a legend in baseball and should get the benefits of being so.
(As a player not a manager.)

As a player I respect him and think he should be reinstated back into baseball(he belongs in the HOF). However, as a manager I have no respect for him and believe he should never be allowed to manage again.
