Maggots need a rotting food source. So you must have a long time between pick ups of your trash. They are deposited by flies, in fact they are fly eggs. Your only solution is to avoid giving them the food source by getting a better trash can that has a seal on it. Good luck.

Maggots are fly larva. If you have leftover food in your trash or whatever that will undergone decomposition make sure you dispose of them immediately. If not, cover your trash with something that prevents flies from entering. As much as possible, use two trash bags.

Make sure no one leaves anything that leaks into your trash can. If your not going to clean the trash can try double wrapping the trash that spoils and the put it in the trash can.

put your trash in plastic bags that you get from walmart or kmart. then tie the ties. Double, or tripple bag it and do the same to each bag. This way, flys will not get to the garbage to lay their eggs. If you can keep the flys away, you wont have maggotts. I also sprinkle ant powder in the garbage can.
