You are asking a genuine question however, please let me explain something that is so misunderstood by all races and cultures. Racism is a systematic method that is used to defame, hurt, or disrupt the lifestyle of a 'race' of people. No one person can be a 'racists' per se. You can be predudiced - perferring one thing over another - and there is nothing wrong with that! What we have done as a community is to take what is known and common to us - like or dislike - and try to encompass everyone in that circle. For example: One white person might meet one black person. Black person has a 'scent' that white person does not "like" or is not "familiar" with the odor. Instead of white person 'to himself' thinking, I didn't like that smell on that person - what happens is ' white person says to other whites - "black people stink" or "black people have an odor" and this message is carried far and away - and what was 'one person's opinion about "another" has become 'ALL". Thus a 'stereotype' has been created and unfortunately, this stereotype is passed from generation to generation until someone breaks that pattern. We, as a black people have learned to hate each other from whites. When you are bombarded constantly with mental messages that 'your skin is not light enough', your hair is not long and silky, you don't represent the 'beauty' of the world, and on and on they go - you help to create a dislike in a culture that can last for centuries. Then, there are those who have their own preferences. When people make you believe the darkness of your skin is "ugly", you set up a standard not only for yourself - but you pass that standard to your children. I remember growing up and my aunt used to tell me that I should make sure to marry a man 'lighter than myself' - why? So my children would be a 'nice color'. A very ignorant statement - but I understand where and how it originated. What we have to learn to do is love people for who they are - for the character inside, the spirit inside of them - not what they look like outside. I constantly remind my students when they make these ugly comments about and to each other - that "there was no line any of us stood in and made the request for hair, eye color, body shape, skin color, any of those attributes - therefore nobody can afford to make comments because I am sure if we could change some things about our physical selves - we would - but more importantly - we need to change some things about our spiritual selves - we need to learn to accept the things we cannot change, change the things we can - and pray for mercy and guidance and peace and love to know the difference.

That is just something that is done. It is not necessarily being racist against one another. I do not know how to explain it. The use of the n word is something that has just become a part of our rhetoric. I am not saying that it is good or bad but it is what it is. The complexion thing well throughout time we were taught that the lighter you are the better looking you are and that is why we tend to shy away from darker people and we tend to make fun of them to an extent. It can also be that people have there preference because you are also teased if you are too light. I think to get a better understanding you have to be black and grow up in that type of environment.

None of those statements are racist statements (at least not from a black person pov).
The first statement "I don't like that boy he to dark" is a matter of preference.
The second one has to do with skin tone (again from a black person's pov)
Now, if a black person said, I hate black people, or they don't acknowledge their own race, culture, heritage ie uncle ruckus, then they are racist against their own.

I'm white. However, I lived with a black family for 4 years in high school and also went to a mixed school. Yes, blacks practice bigotry, self-hate, and racism against others who are darker and lighter than them. They often, as you know, draw classifications based on being "yellow", "redbone", "brown-skinned", and "black." I've always maintained that if blacks were the dominant culture in America that they would practice racism much worse than any group of whites.

It is the same in all ethnic groups including the whites. I know for a fact that in the Hispanic race, their are Hispanics who refuse to speak Spanish...Why? because that means they are Mexican...and not Italian as they claim to be....My Latin girlfriends refuse to date Mexican guys....Why? One was quoted to say "and have a bunch of immigrants living in my house?? No way, white guys make money...Mexican guys cut grass. Another example would be how some white individuals hate to associate with other whites because they resemble "tralier park trash"....I was told this by a some "30 something age man" ...he was even quoted too say.."We got hicks in my, family and I refused to claim them as family.... I don't do the Jerry Springer thing, they never have any teeth, and if they do...its only like 4 or 5 teeth total....gross, they don't know how to read!

most black on black racism is because of different up bringing. Most black women that I hung out with didn't want a dark black man because they wanted pretty mixed babies, but it doesn't change the way the person is mentally, or weather we have fun or not with them. I had light, mid and dark skinned boyfriends, and then married a white man, but it isn't because i wanted pretty babies, it was because he treated me better than any guy I had ever dated. Black white, rican, or any other. Black men are beautiful, no matter how light or dark.

i'm black but not from america, so what i'm about to say is just hypotethical. but i think that black people (from america) show some racist signs to each other because they think it's ok to call someone of their own race a n**** or even insult each other. however if they hear someone from another race call them the same way they get in rage and scream for a foul play.
i personally think they are the most racists of most races because they set the wrong example on how they should be respected.
i've realized it was just in the USA that black people were behaving that way, you will never hear people from Africa call each other racist names, not even once...

Maybe just to cope with a racist society. I say a lot of things in jest to lighten up some very dark sides of life. It's all in the context, is it said with hatred, indifference, jesting or just part of the slang?

We call it "color-struck". The darker blacks call the lighter blacks "House-ni&&@" and the lighter ones say something to the effect of "black-a$$ #$#@." I am light skinned with green eyes, darker guys generally don't like me cause I'm lighter. What kills me is whites say blacks are more racist to others but the fact of the matter is blacks are more racist to other blacks than they are to any/every other culture.
