Do you recall these handy little thing-a-ma-giggies? You know, the springy, wire kinda thingy that your grandparents had installed on the right front fender on every car they owned. I wonder what happened to them? Do we drive better these days? Or mabe a little curb rubbing is not such a bad thing now. Anyway, just some'n ta think about for the day. How silly huh? Have a good one everybody. :)

They aren't totally gone, see link. As the hood and fenders became flatter by the 60's, it was easier to see where you were in relation to curbs. On 30's and 40's cars the hood was so large that you couldn't see the fender. It was hard to tell when you were close to the curb. I have a 1948 Frazer and it isn't easy to park next to a curb without scraping a tire.

They probably went the way of foot operated high beam acuators. A better way was found. Better power steering, tighter turning radius, etc. Now if only people would realize that spinners are no longer in vogue.
