my boyfriend told me over the weekend, that when he was younger he was molested by a guy who use to babysit him. i am the only person he has ever told, and for over 17 years he has kept it a secret. i felt for him, and just held him in my arms while he cried and i am just not really sure how to make him feel better except to let him know that I am here for him. hes a very masculine, athletic, bodybuilder type who has a very bad temper. and as a child acted out, got into fights all the time, and has never really been close to his parents. hes not a very affectionate person but with me, i would say hes the most infectionate person i have ever met... please help

tell him that he needs to go see a therapist or psychologist so that he can have someone to talk to about his issues associated with what has happened and can get some treatment, it wont happen overnight but in talking to someone he can realize that what happened when he was younger was not his fault.....

He must really trust you to tell you his painful secret. What you did for him in the moments thereafter was compassionate and loving. Now you have to help him find a therapist. There are many issues he will have to deal with. You might want to seek counseling for yourself as well. You will need much more than patience and understanding if you want to continue this relationship.

Does he want to seek additional counseling to talk about issues and deal with them and feelings? Does he want to go after the person that did this to him legally or just for the point of dealing with past and moving on? You need to ask your boyfriend how else you can support him in dealing with his past to make his future better and brighter. Be supportive. Good luck.
