I think Carrick is worth it. I know that Ferguson has spent over the odds on some players in the past (eg Veron) but I believe Carrick will be worth it. He's a very good midfielder at the moment and he's only going to get better. Time and again, Ferguson has brought the best out in players, and I think Carrick will be excellent for Manchester United, and will be a key player in their Premiership and Champions League campaigns, and he will be essential for England's success in Europe 08 and WC 2010.

Bring on the new season - it's gonna be a cracker.

I'm a Manchester United supporter and I'm quite upset with this transfer.

Michael Carrick is a good player - don't get me wrong - but there is no way that he is worth near £18.6m. That is just poor buisness. For that kind of money we could have 2 or 3 players just as good as Carrick. Personaly I would have paid no more than £11m for Carrick.

We are possibly getting Marcos Senna from Villareal for around £4m. From what I seen of him last year in the Champions League, he is possibly slightly better than Carrick. Now if that deal goes through then that would be good buisness.

I think I know what you're saying about 'or any player for that matter.' Transfer fees nowadays are rediculus. For example Chelsea have just paid around £30m for 30 year old Shevchenko (who is a good player) but when you think we bought Eric Cantona for £1.2m back in 1992, surly Chelsea have ruined UK football as we know it. I mean is an old Shevchenko really worth 25 Eric Cantona's. The money and wages paid today is just comical.

Really do you beleave any player is worth a million at the end of the day it's a sport. Chelsea spend 6.7 million a month on wages if Abramovic spent ayears wages on say cancer research you would have thought we can cure it. At the end of the day buying Carrick for 18.6 million is right for man united because they are the reason for the multi priced inflamed market because they were the first team to buy a player for a million in Thomas.
I love football it rules my life but i fear a dark future for the sport i fear it will be a billionaires playground do you realy thing palyers should earn more that doctors surgions these guys saves are lifes and people like Lee Hughes(ex west brom) who sits behind bars because of a hit and run and Pennant for drink driving.

I'm sure this is what must what have been going through Sir Alex's mind at the time when he was buying Carrick:

"Oh, Diarra and Riquelme, they are fantastic players. They are amazing passers, especially that Argentine......but wait, there's that Carrick guy,,,,he's rubbish, flimsy in midfield compared to Keane and Tottenham what 18 million for him. I'll get him :-)"

So, no....bad transfer!

Yes I think Michael Carrick is worth what Manchester United have paid for him, I reckon he is going to be opening a lot of people`s (who are doubting him) eyes before the end of the season, and I am confident enough to say it before the season has started.

Couple of things, it might rise to £18.6 based on appearances and trophy's (which they are fairly unlikely to win)

While he is a good player, he is not the type of players the Rags need and is unlikely to bring nearly £20mill of success.

Couldn't care less, but genuinely dont think anyone is worth that kind of money due to the above statement. Over the course of a contract will he bring in £15million in terms of merchandise, silverware or extra gate receipts. I dont think so.

No player is worth that...but for some reason, the price seems to get REALLY REALLY high when MU want to buy!

He's what Man Utd have been looking for since Beckham left. They'll pose a much tougher challenge this season, but Ballack in my view is the best signing so far this year.
