Many people who live in Manhattan are rich, yes. Ultimately though, the least amount of NYC residents live in Manhattan. It is mostly businesses and tourism. Most New Yorkers live in Brooklyn... about 5-6 million people, whereas Manhattan maybe has about 200,000 people.

Yes, you have to be quite rich to be able to afford a one bedroom apartment in Manhattan, that's why most of us live in Brooklyn. It's not as expensive around here.
