My ship was floating in the middle of the Persian Gulf. It was, like 110 degrees outside of the ship, and the walls were sweating. We worked 12hrs shifts. I'm getting out of the Navy in 4 WEEKS!! YEAH!!! This was 3 yrs ago on my 21st Bday. :(

Okay, this is a true story and I am completley over it- I am just telling it because I see sooooo many people complaining over such petty things all the time and there are kids out there whose life is rough- want to have a great birthday no matter what anyone else does or does not do for you? -Find a kid in foster care or something and do something extraordinary for THEM for their birthday
My 12th birthday, just before I was put into states custody for the abuse- my parents are fighting all morning- no one, not even one of my 5 younger brothers or sisters mentions my birthday or anything. I go to school pretty upset- everyone says, ooooh maybe they are planning a surprise party- I know better but one can imagine and hope, anyway, I get home from school, to a messy kitchen I have to clean and a scribbled not on the door saying sorry we forgot, happy birthday, then obviously there was a fight there because , my dads name was scratched out then written in his own handwriting. Then when everyone got home from work- it was never mentioned again. The funny thing is that was not the norm- despite the dysfunction, birthdays were always a huge thing in my house- even when everyone got to be adults, birthdays were always celebrated big.
So now, go find a kid who needs some reassurance and attention and let them know how special they are- might take your mind off of how miserable you are feeling and help you recognize your blessings!

last year, when i turned 14.
i HATED it. i didn't even get any presents. the only thing i got was a peircing at the mall for a THIRD hole in my ear. and that was ALL i got. after that, we went back home and did NOTHING. some people didn't even say happy bday. doesn't that suck!
but THIS year, i turned 15 june 25, and i got EVERYTHING i wanted! [i even got some $$$ in my pocket!] and my favorit cake(ice cream cake)and the cake was my favorite color:pink and white with circular-shaped sprinkles on it! it was SO good. it was better than last year's bday party[when i turned 14]

Last month, I worked a 17 hour shift in a foreign country with no friends or family around. I didn't even bother telling my co-workers it was my birthday.

my 17th,18th,19th,20th,21st,22nd and 23rd ..All of these I spent with husband who was abusive.
Since he dissapeared from my life 35yrs ago
The rest have been great
