eight hours between the UK (e.g. London) and the West Coast (e.g. Los Angeles), so your call would be 10 a.m. PST.
Note that both the UK and the US are on daylight savings time right now.

PST is 8 hours behind GMT. So a call at 6pm GMT is 10am PST.
Note also that right now is summer time so the UK clocks are set to GMT-1. We call this BST (British Summer Time). However, most PST timezone countries also have daylight saving time right now so PST is also running an hour behind. So the time difference is still -8 hours. So right now a 6pm call in the UK is still a 10am call on the west coast of america.

PST is GMT-7 which means that a call made at 1800 GMT would be 1100 on the same day that the call is made.

California is 9 hours behind us in the UK
so 6pm bst - take away 9 hours and you get 9am California time
no need to adjust for bst/gmt as many states in the USA tend to put their clocks backwards and forwards too almost in sync with us

6:00 pm in London (GMT) would be 10:00 in California (Pacific Standard TIme) or 9:00 am if Daylight Savings TIme is in effect.
