Democracy .
What is that exactly ? People are manipulable in many ways ,overt and covert . The latter is more difficult to counter, but at least in many 'democratic' countries we have the chance to express ourselves ,and point out these things, even if most of the electorate isn't sophisticated enough to take it onboard.
As for the US in particular ,having two monolithic parties doesn't really express the variety of opinions that must exist ,so for many there is no real chance to have their viewpoints incorporated into public life. On the other hand ,any heirarchical society has to sacrifice individual influence to the leaders.
However ,the need to appeal to the masses tends towards simplistic standpoints for politicians , and thus a degree of hypocrisy ,if they are themselves more intelligent .If..?
The most serious here is the use of the word 'Democracy', as if it were a simple and pure pattern ,bringing only good, and a cure for all political ills. Democracies are I think generally the best option, but if a country were lucky enough to have really wise leaders ,that would be even better in the short term (eg:Bhutan).
But the fact that I can only think of one good example of such a state ,tells us how worthwhile is the regular opportunity to replace our politicians, especially as they become corrupted by power.
Democracy on its own does not guarantee very much else however ,unless people make it .

The shameful sight of some governments justifying war on the basis of bringing democracy ,the great cure ,to other countries , and then crippling democratic countries when they elect someone not to their taste ,is however hypocritical, and prehaps indicative of the true intentions of such politicians.
It seems as if to them democracy is a means to an end ,and if neccessary it will be jettisoned. That is against the spirit of democracy ,which is that all people should have a fair say in who leads them .

A democratic country? Of course! We are bound by the laws of our constitution. The people have the voice, and there is a balance of power between three branches of government. This is what makes a democracy work.

The United States is NOT a Democratic state. We are and always have been a REPUBLIC. This is the most commonly made mistake when referencing our great nation.

If it wasn't could a bunch of people break the law, go out into the street and hold a rally and not get arrested. That is what the illegals did in Phoenix recently.

If the USA is such a bad place as you say then why are so many people trying to get there? Perhaps you would be happier somewhere else!

Democratic? the Bush regime? you are kidding me. The Yankee's elections are bought every time.
Have you ever seen a poor person who was elected in the Yankee's land? They eat, drink, and kill for money.

-USA is a police state still having highest crime rates.
-USA is a military state hated by most people of the world.
-USA is a lobby state where polls only reflect the power of money.

If FREEDOM means NFL, Alcohol, Porn and Commercials then I'm wrong.
