I have moved to Scotland and was wondering if cross cultural friendship between women are common or are they just something people thinks should happen. The difference between reality or fansty. I would love to hear from adults in their 30's, 40's and 50's.

I come from a city of 5 million people. I had friends from all races and cultures. I loved it. I made the mistake of thinking the world was as open as that beautiful wonderful city. But I was also allowed to be myself. I feel now I have to pretend to be something I am not just have a friend. I like who I was. But I am surrounded by people who only lived in this town. They visit other place but you can tell it is really superfical. They just do it so they can brag about the places they have been. They dont know anything about the people nor do they really want too. Surprised is what you would call me because for some odd reason I expected the people to open minded that isnt what I have found.

I believe it is myth. Just watch the streets. You see tons of inter cultural couples but few friendships. Inter cultural works if sex is what you get out of it but if is just a friendship well thanks anyway.

OK - am only 28 but wanted to answer this one
My best friends
K - scottish
J - jamacian
S - indian descent
Me, white english.
So yes in my case they do, we all enjoy a night out, chatting etc and we have all been friends for over 14 years the differences actually make the relationships better as we all have different views.
its not the colour, culture or shape of a person its WHO they are.

Absolutely! I have lived in the middle east for the past 30+ years. My close friends come from a wide spectrum of cultures, races and religions.
Somethings we don't understand about each other's cultures even after all this time, but it never holds any of us back.

a reality, I am 46 and have friends from different cultures and countries across the world, I respect our differences, embrace our shared values and challenge those who try to put my Friends or our friendships down.. it does depend on where you live, how well informed you are, and if people are just talking the talk or walking the walk.. you need to find like minded people, not always easy, but cross cultural relationships can and do work, lot depends on how we present our selves too..it takes understanding and respect from all parties.

it's not a myth it's working in good decent communities but sadly not in the sadist and racists communities.
