If it's an Audio CD you can Rip it to make MP3's (CDEx it's Free and very good link: http://www.mp3-converter.com/cdex.htm)
Or you can make image of the Audio CD and mount the CD Image with A CD Emulator So you Can Play the CD whenever you want. but on Audio CD it's recommended to make RIP's because you gain Hard Disk Space.

Okay now for DATA CD's, Video CD's, Anything contaning Data:
you can only make Image to That CD you can use ISOBuster (link: http://www.isobuster.com/) or simply search google for free CD Image Tools.
The recommended Software for Creating Image Cd's is CloneCD and Alcohol 120%

After making the Image you can Mount it Using CloneCD Emulator, or using Alcohol 120% Emulator, or Simply you can use Daemon Tools 4.x (It's Freeware link: http://www.daemon-tools.cc/)

I hope it helps.

Cheers,

Assuming MS XP operating system. You have the MS media player. When you put the CD into your computer the media player should kick-in. You then want to copy the CD songs to the Hard Drive and then you will have a file archieve that you can then play in the furture without the CD being used.

Hello-
I recommend you download ITunes from Apple. You will be able to upload all your CD to the hard drive, you can then make your own CD by mixing what ever songs you like. Also once they are all uploaded you can play them as you like and never have to touch the CD's again. You can also download them all to and Ipod or MP3 player. It's a neat program and it's 100% free!!! It is a very easy program to use..... Good Luck!!!
