'Cos US keeps vetoing every single resolution against Israel...

Because the UN is the US in the disguise of an "international and objective" body. The US controls the UN, so if the UN can't stop israel is because the US doesn't want it to. It's simple. Bush has once again used the UN for his own benefit (the first time was the Iraq invasion).

The only thing the UN can do is apply political pressure based on the amount of political clout it gets from it's members. Since it does not seem to be able to excercise this in this situation, that means the support is not there and it can therefore be interpeted as saying, based on world opinion by the countries represented at the UN, Israel has a right to protect and defend itself and for the time being will not pressure her to stop.

First you all need to realize that the UN is nothing. They don't and should not have any authority over any countries sovernty. All they do is make noise. The US only has one vote, as do member countries so a veto means nothing. They have a security council that has no teeth and mean nothing. The only teeth is when the US decides to act on behalf of them.

Anyhow, why should Isreal be stopped? They are protecting THEIR land and their people. These idiots have been attacking them ever since I can remember (Back in the 60's) They have EVERY right to defend themselves. All you hear is what the media wants you to hear. Lets take about the thousands of bombs that have gone off on buses killing and maiming innocent people over the past 2-3 decades alone. how about car bombs, missle attacks etc? It's a wonder to me that Israel hasn't just wiped them back to the stone age. I wouldn't have a problem if they did either. It sure would settle a bunch of our own terrorist problems, and would bring our boys home sooner.

Quit listening to the media and develop your own opinion....sheep.

What has UN done till now that has resulted in betterment of the world...it is ridiculous to ask this coz UN is nothin but an impotent organization that has its rules and actions manipulated and even dictated by US.....
Why UN cant stop Israel .....will US let it happen????
Why UN cant stop Hamas,Al-qaeda, etc..
well why cant UN stop ISRAEL killing innocent civilians in Palestine EVERY SINGLE DAY????
When it cant stop terrorist nations (Israel,US & UK)then how do u suppose they can ever stop terrorists without nations!!!

UN just watches in silence as nuclear disarmmament of every country except US and its allies (Uk and Israel) is pushed by US........
UN watches in silence when US and Israel always push for and even take things in their own hands when the discussion comes to the resolution 1559(disarmamment of Hezbollah by Lebanon)
while conviniently forgetting resolution 242(Nov 22 1967) and 338(post 1973 Ramzan war) which call for withdral of Israel from territories it occupied in the 1967 war when Israel openly disreguards this by not moving even an inch back into their territory...

what have people who think US,Israel and UK are righteous in their every action have to say now......

now dont you think US is the bid daddy of terrorists after all....don forget US didnt get any WMDs in Iraq after killing innocent civilians and checking Saddams mouth!!!

The UN can't stop *anybody*. Period. Only its sovereign member states, acting in cooperative effort (or by its sanction) can. All the UN is good for in this sense is in providing an organized forum for nations to address the issues and act on them. Even there it faces a lot of difficulty in that five nations (the permanent Security Council Members) have the exclusive right to derail even the most benign of proposals, should they choose to.

Who has the UN ever stopped?

They just say "Naughty naughty don't do that little boy" and if someone actually did bad the US or some other country (say like Israel) has to step up and help out.

UN has no power to do anything, and why would they want to stop Israel? Why not stop the terrorist in Lebanon? Anyway, they couldn't stop a rubber ball from rolling across the floor.

Measures taken by Members in the exercise of this right of self-defense shall be immediately reported to the Security Council and shall not in any way affect the authority and responsibility of the Security Council under the present Charter to take at any time such action as it deems necessary in order to maintain or restore international peace and security."

UN can´t stop wars if there is any big interest on it...Being a US based but worldwide members institution, it was founded with the intention of mediate between conflicts. If it has failed and is nothing but a waste of time and paper...then come out with another effective organism...This conflict is being played and managed by savage people...Why is that for, anyway? Dry Land?

They cant because they know that israel can easily kill them all. They probably bombed the UN in Lebanon to test them out. They couldnt even get a resolution passed condeming the attack.
