People have told me they learn a language better and quicker when surrounded by people who speak that language. In other words take a long trip to an English speaking country.

Oui, bien sur
The best way is actually to just go out and make yourself speak to as many people as possible about as many subjects as possible.
This is actually very tiring, and you probably will get very frustrated, but it truely is the very best...and fasted way of learning how to speak a language - and if you are lucky, you will make some English speaking friends who will be able to correct you when you make mistakes.
Bonne chance !!

Judging by your question and the way it was written, I would suggest you are better than a lot of the people on this site.

As for improving it, I can only suggest exposure to it is the answer. Take a trip under/over or through the Channel and come and visit!

The best way to learn a second language is to speak only the second language with native speaking people. The longer you do so the more confident you will be.

Depending on where you live, there are always english classes nearby for adults. You could look for your nearest one and try to enrol there.
If not, go to your local library and get an easy learning English audio book to help you learn. Hope this helps :)

Your English seems pretty good to me. If you want to practice it; as well as immersing yourself in the language, try using chatrooms or reading English news articles.
