Great question! I have been studying this for a long time. Over the centuries I have been many things both good and bad (if those two words have any real meaning since it always depends upon the mores of the times), but at this point I'd have to say that I am a total accumulation of all past experiences and decisions. What does that make me? Way cool...

I as in "ego" is a mental construct to make sense of the consciousness. A natural creative process creates ego from analyzing past instances of being. But the ego is an illusion like a story is an illusion. It's just something we use to make sense of things.

thats the way my philosophy professor started a the first lesson in university.
we all stood there and looked at him not knowing what to say. his face was so serious that all of us doubted who the hell were we.
i won't give you ananswer but i appreciate that there a people today who have this existential question...

I tried to think about who I am... failed. None of the responses from within really satisfied me.
Then I tried to feel who I am....
Well, this seems to work better !
