Any why do people need friends of the opposite sex when they're in a relationship?

Yes I do believe it, I have 2 very good male friends... the only thing you have to think is that at one point of the relationship mostly at the beginning, one or the other has had some attraction towards the other (but nothing major) then everything was clear and now it's all good only the best is left... real connection!

certainly can. I have several male friends. Geton really well. Have such a laugh. Don't fancy each other in the least....Also, when you're in a relatuionship you still need friends. You always will. The worst thing you can do in a relationship is give up your friends. When the relationship finishes you'll have no friends at all left. Keep your friends close to you!

Yes - I did an engineering degree and I was one of only three women in my year (out of about 100), so all of my friends from my course were men. I'm still in touch with most of them and I graduated over 10 yrs ago and our relationships have always been platonic.

Yes they can ... although we've all seen "When Harry Met Sally"!!

Having a friend of the opposite sex helps you to talk through any problems you may have - remember you can't always discuss things of a more "personal nature" with your partner.

Yes, you can just be friends with the opposite sex. My mom has plenty of guy friends. They are married, and so is my mom, they're just friends from work.

I have lots of male friends and one of them is my best friend. It does work because we're both thinking the same way.
However things can get messy in boy-girl platonic relationships for example, he fancies one of my friends she thinks they are "just friends." I also kinda fancy one of my male friends and made out with another.
Those are just a few examples where it can get messy that i've come across.
So although males and females can be friends - things can get REALLY messy.
PLUS boyfriends can get jealous and clingy when you're with lots of other males.

Absolutely.

I am friends with people that can see me for me. Sometimes they are male and sometimes female.

I don't see it as a need. I wouldn't stay in a relationship that had a lot of jealousy, confrontations and ultimatums.

This life is too short.

yes... most of my best friends have been male. the trouble starts when they get long term girlfriends or wives. They don't always understand, they either try to pair you off with someone to reduce the 'threat' or start issuing ultimatums to their men! It's usually best to back off to lessen the risk of losing them as friends altogether.

I did sleep with one of my 'friends' once , years ago.... I wondered why I couldn't find a boyfriend as nice as he was and thought maybe it could work...big mistake, fortunately we both realised before it went any further... it was never quite the same afterwards though.
