Um probably cuz most people are embarrassed by it. I am a beginner at the whole scene because my old best friend bought me a vibrator. I will never give it up for anything as of today. :)
My husband hates it. He thinks it says something about him, even though I try to be sensitive and explain to him that even though he is wonderful...this is something completely different. That I'd like to enjoy with him. I think one day he will come around. :)
If more people like you get the word out and talk about it alot...you never know...we might live in a world that masturbating will be the thing to talk about out in the open. :)
Have a GREAT day!
(I agree you should do speeches at schools don't drink just touch yourself...wayyyy better)

It is not bad for you at all. Some religious people say it it wrong but probably because most enjoyable things are in the eyes of the church.
Everyone does it at some point, it is just that some do it more than others and some people won't admit to it. If you find anyone over about 18 who says they have never once masturbated, they are either lying or there is something wrong.
During puberty especially it is a good way of finding out what we like, then later on it makes it easier to tell a partner this!

Well... it does not exactly hurt you physically, but emotionally it makes it harder for you to relax and have fun with a partner, if done too regularly instead of the real thing. It makes it harder for a partner to satisfy you, in other words.
Better than getting drunk (or high on some drugs) - true. Just don't forget that a good coital act is the best in the area any day. And that includes emotional bonding with another human, and also some commitment on both sides... not as easy as do-it-yourself, but much better.

The stigma has nothing to do with religion. Those who hide the fact they masturbate probably do so because during adolescence masturbation is what you do before you get a girlfriend, so if adolescents continue to masturbate they don't want their peers to think they can't get a girlfriend. Some people feel guilty about masturbating because of their religion but this would not constitute a stigma.

I don't think there is much of a stigma nowadays except among religious lunies, although most people are embarrassed to admit to it. Done in private it is a pleasure that harms nobody else and does you good, releasing beneficial and pleasure giving chemicals in the body. For men it probably reduces the risk of prostate cancer by keeping the sexual fluids moving and not stagnating.
Go for it as often as you get the urge.

Its one of the many crimes of organised religion that society thinks this safe, normal, and fun activity is a problem. As you say better to do some solo play than to drink, take drugs, do antisocial things etc. Also the relaxing effects of solo play reduce stress and violence feelings. It has also been shown that males that do it are at a lower risk of getting some cancers.

I dont think there is a "stigma" around it. It just isnt talked about at the dinner table you know? I would say 75% of the people in the world do it. Excluding elderly or sick or whatever.

The stigma is no doubt connected to religion, another thing we can thank the clergy for. In my humble opinion, masturbation is as natural as taking a shower (hey, kill two birds with one stone) and as long as its done either in privacy, or with a consenting adult present as part of your sexual relationship, there's nothing wrong with it. Now, if you'll excuse me, i gotta go flick my bean, lol

Because we were brought up to think that our bodies are revolting and not to be explored by ourselves. For more information on masturbation here is a site for you and yours...It's just as pleasurable to watch your partner masturbate as it to perform it...http://www.sexuality.org/l/sex/masturba.html

What´s wrong with it?
No stigmata here, just enjoy, as most men do a number of times a week...
