Hi: I live in new york city and I am buying a house up in buffalo ny. It is a for sale by owner the price is $26,500.00 we already had an agent working on another property he said that he would do the paper work for us and wants to charge us $1,500.00 for his services. We found the property our-selves and we also made the deal with the seller. I know that in ny the agent or brokers fee is 6% which they split. we did more than half the work so i think that we should do the same. Is it right for this agent to charge us $1,500.00 off the records. I thank you for any helpfull information.

A number of brokers here in the Buffalo area advertise commission rates as low as 2.5% so don't be reluctant to haggle.

Well I don't know, that seems kind of expensive. But then I guess $1500 is 6% but if you did half the work offer him $750. You could find any real estate agent or lawyer to do the paperwork, hell you could even do it yourself. I would check around with other people who offer them services to see what they're charge you to enter the deed and stuff with the county.

Buffalo is a nice place. Lots of factory's closes over the years up there so houses are cheap. They get lots of snow but I liked it when I passed through up there.
