The answer is age dependent, and of course is only a general rule.
Males up to the age of 23 have the highest sex drive on the planet.
Women around the age of 27 have a high sex drive that reaches its peak somewhere before 40. This would be number two.
Middle age men (post 45, pre-60) get a second spurt. This would be number three.
This does not account for the hypersexuality common in people who have been sexually abused at a young age.

In the animal kingdom, males, due to their nature, are wired up to inpregnate as many females as possible. Females are wired up to breed with the highest spec male they can. Its all down to the best strategy of ensuring their genes make it into the future. Males spread their genes as far as possible so at least some of their ofspring will survive. Females, which can only have a small number of off spring have to try and ensure those they do have are the fittest, strongest, best young possible and so they pick the best mate they can. In human terms, though social norms, religion, laws etc hide this drive it is still there. Men would sleep with as many women as they can unless there is some restriction and women will breed with the best male they can (this may not be their husband).

It seems like males do, but for the wrong reasons. Men have a stronger desire just to get laid, while women have a stronger desire for a passonate sex.

but i say that males want se more OFTEN than females

That is totally individual and is the same for both males and females. It is a human, not male or female, quantity need (want?).

it depends more on the person than the gender, but i also think that women probably do. they just have better self control over it.
