True story. I'm in the bathroom at Chicago O'hare and Michael walkes in. He obviosly has to urinate. But he goes to the handicaped stall to do it. Is he handicaped? Well, told him that I thought that stall was reserved for people that needed it. He gave me the finger and walked out. (don't shake hands with him, he didn't wash) I lowered myself to using 3 word response. (f*** you too) Was I wrong?

The stall isn't reserved, because there are often no handicapped people around. But if there is one, then it's there for their priority. From what you have said, though, he has just proved what a rude person he was. I think the fact that you reacted with "3 word response" was reflexive, as you don't sound like you were meaning to be rude to him, but the fact that you are asking answers your own question. It's always better not to lower ourselves to the other's level but to stay above it.

Think out ahead of time appropriate responses in those situations.

"Say nothing".

Say, "I love you, too".

Say, "I wasn't meaning to be rude, just to let you know the rules (because you did believe those to be the rules).

Or think up some of your own. And then you can keep your head high.

And I won't shake hands with him. One should wash their hands after using the bathroom.

No, you were not wrong in letting him know that he was using a handicapped stall, but maybe he needs help in lifting and lowering himself when he uses the bathroom - isn't he kind of on the large size? But there is something else that needs to be considered before you chastise someone else when you feel they are using the wrong stall. I, while not handicapped, have often had to use the handicapped stall - that is where they put baby changing tables and is also the only stall large enough to accomodate me, and my three girls when we go to the bathroom. So while this stall is mainly intended for those with handicaps, it has also become the place for moms with little children. Many of us mothers (and fathers) have to wait for that specific stall when we travel with children.

the thing is we don't know that much about michael moore, he could be claustrophobic or maybe he just didn't fit in the other stalls. that sounds mean but he's a heavy individual and those stall are so small. consider how often you see handicapped people in the bathroom. i think it would be safe for him to use it. I often use it when i don't feel so well and the claustrophobia factor isn't helping.
and don't respond, you are really just lowering yourself to an unneccesary level

Bullsh!t. I know Mike and he'd never say anything like that to anybody (except for really rich weasels.)

The only way he'd ever say anything like that was if there was a lot more to the story than what you let on. Personally, I don't believe a word of it. I'll ask him when I see him.

BTW, Mike is a cleanliness freak, despite his outward appearance. He is a compulsive hand-washer. He has a phobia about public places, especially restrooms. If somebody yelled "Bomb!," Mike would likely get blown up before he'd ever leave without washing.

Mike is handicapped, too.

Thanks for the two points.

I view handicapped bathroom stalls differently from parking spots. Parking spots are designated to be closest to facilities for those who are physically challenged.

Washrooms are designed for wheelchair access and are larger. I consider it okay to use a handicap access washroom unless someone who requires access is waiting. We all have to queue for something some time in our lives. That includes physically challenged people who, I am sure, are not asking for unreasonable privilege.

You were both rude.

I think that the answer to this question depends in large part on your motivation in making the comment, and answering the question "would you have made that comment if it were any person other than Michael Moore?". If the answer is yes, then you're standing up for a general principle and level of civility that holds everyone accountable for good manners and compliance. If the answer is no, then you're just busting ol' Mike's stones. I'd like to think that we can check our politics at the door, especially in the restroom.

Michael Moore probably used the stall so that people like you won't be able to get on places like this and tell everyone you saw his business package at the urinal.

Not for saying **** You Too. He was rude.

But, if there's no one in a wheelchair around, and someone needs to go, it's OK that they use that stall. That you were wrong about.

HOW DARE YOU SPEAK TO A LIBERAL ELITE IN SUCH A WAY! DO YOU NOT KNOW HOW MUCH BETTER HE IS THAN YOU? HE SHOULD HAVE STRUCK YOU DOWN LIKE THE LOWLY SURF YOU ARE!

YOU SHOULD HAVE BEGGED FOR HIS FORGIVENESS AND SHINED HIS SHOES WITH YOUR TOUNGE JUST FOR THE HONOR OF BEING IN HIS PRESENCE! YOU SHOULD BE HANGED!!!

BY THE WAY, AS AN ELITE, HE HAS THE RIGHT TO USE THE HANICAPPED STALL IF HE WANTS! IN FACT, HE HAS THE RIGHT TO COME TO YOUR HOME AND USE YOUR RESTROOM IF HE SEES FIT!
