The best identifier of a yeast infection is the smell.
Second, you may have whitish spots around the exit area, or also a creamy/yellowish discharge...
It's difficult to qualify if it's Thrush or a yeast infection, except that there's more redness and pain in passing urine with Thrush.
Everyone's right about the need to apply something though... that itching WILL drive you crazy.
An alternative remedy that will not harm anything is Natural Yoghurt, the plain variety, BioActive kind.
Apply this to the obvious area, it has enzymes and cultures that will help your own body rebuild the good bacteria to counteract this imbalance. Apply Morning and Evening... and if this isn't a yeast infection then it will not harm you or make anything else worse.
Good luck honey.

OMG please do not listen to any of the other comments before me. Good grief.
A yeast infection may have some or all of the following symptoms: feels like an intense itching, burning sensation, localized in your vagina and vulva. This itching is not always present, but can get really bad. The discharge looks like clumpy nasty white stuff, usually referred to as "cottage cheese", but it can range from thick and not clumpy to faintly yellow to thin and clear. It should not have a strong fishy smell...if it does, it is not yeast but is a different type of infection that you must see a doctor to treat.
If it is your first yeast infection, you should definitely see a doctor or health clinic to make sure. Otherwise, there are different over-the-counter creams and suppositories that will help it to go away. It will not go away on its own. You may still have symptoms 2-3 days after you use the treatment (Monistat, Vagisil) but it will stop.

Hello, I'm on the second week and seeing definite improvement on my yeast infection symptoms:
https://bitly.im/aMB1L
Note that: If the yeast infection doesn't respond to over the counter treatment, prescription medication will likely be necessary. Similarly, if the symptoms return after two months of being treated, you should contact the doctor for professional treatment rather than resorting again to home treatment.

If this is the first time you have experienced a yeast infection, you should schedule an appointment to have the condition treated by a doctor instead of resorting to home treatment

Common symptoms are itching, extra discharge, cottage-cheese like discharge and a yeast-smell, but you will not always get these symptoms, it is best to see a doctor to make sure it is a yeast infection until you are educated enough yourself to know when it is a yeast infection and when it is something else – it is also common to get other infections at the same time, such as bacterial vaginosis.
There is no reason for you not to treat a yeast infection, if doctors are not an option then there are more than enough home remedies - that is assuming you know for a fact this is a yeast infection and not something more serious like an STD. It's your responsibility to care for your vaginal health, without treatment a yeast infection could go in a day or it could remain with you as a reoccurring infection for years.
Common cures for yeast infections;
Plain pro-biotic yogurt put into your vagina at night and washed out in the morning, it contains lactobacillus acidophilus which is a bacterium that helps keep your vagina healthy.
Garlic clove into your vagina over night or through the day changing every few hours, making sure to peel off the skin but don't graze the garlic clove itself, this is a mild anti-fungal that kills off access yeast within the vagina.
Tea tree essential oil into your vagina watered down a little to avoid discomfort, best put a few drops inside your vagina and vulva in the shower and this is anti-bacterial and anti-fungal.
Boric acid into some capsules and used as suppositories to go into the vagina, two capsules every night until the infection is gone.
Vaginal cream such as Canestine from a pharmacy, or treatment in tablet form.
Douches of watered down hydrogen peroxide or tea tree oil, note do not use douching any other time as douching is harmful to use constantly as it washes away good bacteria and discharge vital to vaginal health and can push bacteria further into the vagina if you have more serious infections.
Prevention is also important so avoid alcohol and sugars as yeast love the stuff, good vaginal health meaning washing with only water (soap or feminine washes will interfere with vaginal PH, which in turn interferes with normal yeast and bacterial balance), don't use tampons and avoid commercial pads as these are very bad for vaginal health, try to avoid tight clothing and synthetics too.

It will not clear up without some sort of medicine. And believe me you will want to get some yeast cream, or the itching will drive you crazy.
