I'm using a DVD RW, and I'm having trouble burning files of videos from the internet (in this case wmv). None of the programs I'm using, (My Computer, Windows Media Player) are working as they all say I need to put in a blank CD-R or CD-RW in. Can anybody help?

I'm not making a copy of a DVD. I got the files from the internet

Windows XP and Media Player can not burn to DVD's. They only work with CDs (thus the message insert a blank CD). DVDs where not yet common with XP was created.

You will need a DVD authoring program such as Nero to create a DVD. Normally you get such a program with the DVD burner when you pruchase it. Check to see if you have a CD that came with the DVD drive (or the new PC if the drive was preinstalled) that has Nero on it.

I am assuming that your computer has a built-in or externally connected DVD burner. I am asking this because of the error message above which is asking for inserting a CD. So just make sure that you are putting a blank DVD into a DVD burner.

Apart from that, in my experience, the DVD RW discs have always given me trouble -- either in burning stage or more often in trying to play it back on a DVD player. So I switched to a DVD+/- R (instead of RW) discs and have never had a problem. I then started using the DVD RW discs I had already bought for all data backups.

Hope this helps.
