As has been stated here the Dallas Cowboys have always been the Dallas Cowboys. There was an AFL team in Dallas before the Cowboys came into being and they were the Dallas Texans.When the Cowboys came the Texans were moved to Kansas City and were renamed the Chiefs. Lamar Hunt the owner at that time still owns this franchise.

You may be thinking about the Dallas Texans from the old AFL days and they later moved to become the Kansas City Chiefs. After the Oilers moved from Houston and they got a new franchise named the Texans.
