Depends on how far south you are going to be. The northern part of Mexico is right about the same as Californias weather. For the month of January the only place that has really nice warm and dry weather is in the Yucatan Peninsula = Cancun. the warmest months are Dec. thru May.
The Pacific coast will be cool and you would of just missed the hurricane season. The only place you want to be at in January would be on the gulf coast side by Cancun.

About the best part of the year. Hot but not "bake your brain" hot. Almost no rain ever and no hurricanes!

Not much more to say, January in the "Riviera Maya" probably one of the best times to visit one of the best parts of the country!

Go for it!

(Oh, and if you can pull yourself away from the "Hard Rock Cafe" or "Burger King," try the local speciality "cochinita pibil.")

there is never cold......
do not take a lot of clothes you may not need them, take basics, a couple of pair of jeans, comfortable blouses, comfortable walking shoes, and a light jacket that would do.
