I think America puts WAY too much weight into the words of our celebrities. Just because they are good actors does not mean that they have a brain in their head, or that they are not bigots (MEL!). It just means they are getting more attention for what they have to say, not that there is anything of merit to any of it- good , bad or otherwise. But, sadly, we all listen to them.

As far as what he said, I think that maybe the alcohol magnified what he truly feels, he might not feel as strongly as what he said, but he has to at least have some racist views for them to come out.

I hope for his family's sake, he gets a grip on his drinking and also on his "hatin' ways"!

Since Mel is unliked by Hollywood, this is great news for them, if it was Alec Baldwin or a Kennedy an apology would have been good enough and the end of it.

I read that his father was very anti-semitic. Maybe he was just spewing out the stuff that he grew up hearing. Alcohol does weird things to the brain and the mouth--the brain shuts off and the mouth shoots off! Anyway, I saw an interview with him this morning and he admits to being an addict and is getting help.

I worry that his racist comments are his true nature. I just think when he's not drunk he has a good enough "filter" on his mouth to make sure his true feelings/thoughts don't come out. It's really sad that someone who is a role model for others would be so uneducated.

He seemed very straight forward about it and I think he will take his lumps for falling off the wagon. His wife seems very supportive. I didn't hear his racist comments, but he apologized for them. I think it was just the alcohol talking.

Who knows what to think? I am four years old than him, and have said some pretty stupid thing when I have been drunk too! Not raciest, but still pretty dumb!

I would like to think he will work out his problems! Why when he is a rich as he is does he need to work? Maybe this is GODs way of telling him to retire!

A bit stupid really, since he's an international figure and should be setting an example.

Didn't do well for his PR image either..

But I guess we live and learn.. lesson for Mel. about drink.
