Um, because they love and care about you? I just got married and received gifts from my relatives all over the world (Austrailia, New York, Los Angeles, England, St. Vincent). I believe, at least in my case, it was because they couldn't be at the wedding, which may explain why relatives in foreign countries send birthday cards; they can't be there for our birthdays.
