Wait till it hits bottom, I guess.I have had an experience where I was sure I was going to die once.It was a drowning incident.I was 125' under water,I had stainless steel cable wrapped around me from spear fishing.A Strong, heavy, and lively fish on the other end still trying drag me to the bottom. He knocked off my mask, and knocked out my regulator.I was screwed. My hands were tied with the cable and I couldn't hold my breath any longer.I couldn't believe at how mad I was at myself for letting this happen. All I kept thinking about was,who will take care of my kids? Was I a good Dad?Did I treat my wife and kids good enough? So I guess the answer to your question,is I would probably ask those questions of myself again, and hopefully be able to answer them with a more positive outlook this time.

At 50 miles high, I'd assume it was a space elevator that is supposed to have a free-fall stage or expect them to have ancitipated this problem and would calmly wait for them to apply the appropriate protocol to ensure the continued survival of the passengers.

Pray!! They just Did a thing on Myth Busters and there is no way of surviving an elevator free fall from that high up.

If i was 50 miles up in an elevator assuming the elevator starts at ground floor....i would be floating and suffocating probably as i would be in space.

Die. Duh!

If you wanted to survive a fall in terms of physics. You should lie flat on your back and distribute the impact of the crash. But 50 is too much.
