Discharge from your vagina on a daily basis is perfectly normal.

Discharge is your vagina's way of keeping itself clean and healthy, thus why you do not need to use anything other than water to wash with, because your vagina is very good at flushing out nasties and keeping bacteria and yeast at the right levels to prevent infections.

Discharge also keeps your vagina moist – it's like having saliva in your mouth, tears in your eyes or snot in your nose - your vagina and vulva are actually made of mucous membrane rather than skin so it is more delicate, discharge helps keep your vagina and vulva from drying out and splitting.

You will have different discharge at different times in your cycle, it is also not always discharge either, and sometimes you will get lubrication when you are aroused or cervical mucus.

Discharge tends to be white or off-white in colour, you get this on every day of your cycle; it evaporates if you get it on your hands, and it also tends to leave a white skid mark on your underwear. Some days you will get less discharge than normal, you'll also notice a slight change in smell or colour, this all depends on where you are in your cycle – such as before your period is due you may notice less discharge.

Lubrication is of course when you are aroused and is one of the first things your body does to prepare you for sex, but by no means the last thing it does to prepare itself, this is normally clear and very wet feeling, it evaporates when you get it on your fingers and is often sort of slimy.

Cervical mucus, this is what your body makes to help sperm live inside your vagina and help them reach the egg; you get this when you are fertile which is a few days before your body releases an egg. This is different from discharge as it is more slimy and stretchy, it is often more clear, it does not evaporate on the fingers and tends to leave more of a wet circle on your underwear. It's a little like the whites from an egg.

As long as your discharge does not change dramatically you are fine, you should watch out for changes in colour, texture and smell, and know how to tell the difference between what is normal for you at a certain point in your cycle and what could be an infection. Your vagina is supposed to smell like a vagina, you're supposed to have discharge, if you have discharge that is clear or white and smells like your vagina, rather than a bad smell then you are perfectly healthy and normal.

As long as you are clean and practice safe sex (that includes clean fingers when you are having sex – masturbation whether by yourself or a partner doing it for you, is still sex) you will not be at much risk of infections, but we all get infections from time to time and there is no shame in it, you just get it treated and try to prevent getting them again.

Why don't you go ask your Gynecologist. This is a personal question, we are not doctors. This is too much information early on a Monday morning. Anytime a male touches you inside your private area is not a virgin. BECAUSE you have been TOUCHED /entered by a male. Fingers or other things.

Clear with no odour; if in doubt, see your g.p. The fact that you're a virgin means nothing if your partner touched himself before touching you. And you can also get pregnant this way so use precautions.
