I hate throwing them out but can't put them in the recyling boxes cos of the glue.

Any ideas?

Our council who supplies the recyling boxes states no envelopes cos of the glue used in making them can clog the machines.

Re-using is always better anyway!

Use them again. You then just use a label to cover the address and a bit of tape to reseal it and you haven't wasted a whole new envelope.

However, I always recycle mine, I never heard that you couldn't put them in due to the glue. If you are worried then just cut the top bit with the glue off and then at least you can recylcle the majoirity of the envelope.

Glad to see you care so much about the environment!

People put envelopes in recycling boxes all the time. The recycling companies bleach and clean the old paper anyways.. the glue isn't going to make a difference.

Cut them open, reverse it, remove the glued portions, staple them together after stacking it uniformly and cutting the protruding edges, use the inside portion of envelopes as jotting pad for rough work, memo notes etc. A good use , ofcourse needing a little efforts, but impresses ourselves, as also sets an example to others, to conserve nature !
