My advice is to fly from Singapore to Phuket. If you have the time (and money) fly to Bangkok then drive down to Phuket.
I never had any problems re: security concerns.

Fly there. Trust me, fly - you don't need unforseen circumstances along the way; you'd need to be in optimum condition to enjoy Phuket... round the clock!! yeah it's party island

Airplane is your best bet and there won't be any problems with security. I recommend you contact a travel agent for the best deal.
