It's a barbaric operation carried out with no anaesthetic or sterile procedures. The entire clitoris and often the labia is cut away. leaving a raw wound to heal in unsterile conditions. Depending on the culture a straw may be inserted into the urethra to keep it open, and a clay model of a penis inserted so a young girl is tight for her prospective husband.
It serves two purposes, firstly to ensure that women don't enjoy sex as men find that offensive, and secondly as the procedure is inflicted by the other women, it breaks the bonds between the women.
Disturbingly, it used to be carried out in this and other countries at the request of the parents as a 'cultural necessity', I don't know if it had been banned here yet.

They basically cut off all the fun bits and sew up the rest - it's really sick. I normally don't judge other cultures but this is the point where I draw the line - ruining a perfectly wonderful part of an innocent child to fufil a cultural ideal is pretty despicable. All those mutilated women and all the pain they must suffer from sex and child birth... it's awful beyond belief.

This happened to my mother. What they do is sometimes they remove the clitoris by simply cutting it off. They may also cut the labia, connect the lips with thorns, then allow the skin to heal so the lips fuse together, closing up the lower portion of the vulva. This is a very disturbing practice that must be stopped. Please do not circumsice your female children.

The cut out the clitorus! And sew the girls vaginal opening up so when her husband has sex with her it rips her open!
It's illeagal in alot of countries coz the girls often get mutilated or infected, the tribe butcher does it with sharp stones!
