i was just wondering... because here in the phlippines, majority of the highschools have military training in 4th year. and it's mandatory. i was just wondering if in other countries, they too have the same training or not..

to tell you the truth, it's not fun. all the hard training and all the work... you'll just pray that friday afternoon would end so you could go to sleep the next day...

Well, stateside, we have what's called CAP, that's volunteer, you can check it out if you want to, and it can lead into a regular stint of service.
There's also the staged joining, or you can simply join the National Guard, kinda our version of the military police worldwide. Not a bad deal, but don't get to shoot a lot of heavy weapons.
Most of the nation however does have access to guns, aka, hunting rifles, by age 8-10, most states have laws for 12, but at the same time, uncle buck will let a kid learn on the farm....in the midwest, we have the highest gun ratio in the world, simply because it's a way of life.
Then, you have the street life, in the big cities....more of an urban jungle, it's an altogether different type of training you might say, because if you're a purse stealer, and someone like a cop's on your tail, you learn how to move, hide, and get into coverage quickly.
Our army is skilled, at fighting directly at large armies, but as far as police actions, it's pretty limited....hence, why baghdad and some city actions are coming to be very difficult.
There's been some suggestions to reinstituting the Draft, as well, making illegals serve for 3 years, to gain citizenship....but I don't think that'll fly either.

In America we have the choice. You can't join the military until you are 18 (unless you have your parents permission). However, teenagers can do a program thru their high school called JROTC. It teaches them about the military and gives them an idea about what the military is like. It is voluntary and most kids that participate find it enjoyable.

In the USA, it's 18 and it isn't mandatory unless there's a draft.
