I don't know what all the fuss about Jamaica, Their are beautiful home which are own by Jamaican in Jamaica, Not because it is a third world country, that don't mean people are suffering, not like that at all, people have modern living like any part of the world, you must visit Jamaica link up with good people and you will know about Jamaica, you cant just mix up with rifrats and say to your self that's how Jamaican are some Jamaican never use the word Rass Cloth or any other Cloth, Most people who visit just see people who are selling thing, and those people have to make money to survive, so they will try their very best to make a dollars out of you, so please don't think that all Jamaican sell things, some people will come up to you and ask for a dollar, saying that they have five children without no father, you are going to feel sorry for that person, that is not how all Jamaican are, next time you visit Jamaica shop around, try to meet all kind of Jamaican, you will be sup rise.

Jamaica like most Caribbean countries has its ups and downs politics play a major part in their lives as do religion and race issues so yes people live on the streets like in the USA poverty is world wide it does not matter if it is a beautiful vacation spot the all mighty dollar helps out and that is why so many people from Jamaica live and work here to send money home so if you visit pay attention to what you see there is a news paper you can read on line called "Jamaica gleaner" give it a try.

Certainly there is poverty there, much the same as in "1st World" countries, and answer number 1 is also accurate.

The poverty in part is caused by a lack of self generating income,,,Gross National Product,,, through a strong lack of any major industry other than tourism. The population, by enlarge isn't involved in actually benefiting from the Tourist "industry. Hence they live "around it", but can't access it, for one thing, and only a small percentage of the native population participates directly in the tourist industry.

In their case, most of the citizenry live in sub standard conditions,,,As more wealthy nations would define that, at least,,, and subsistence living is the usual. Certainly "Cottage" industries exist, and can be found in places like open markets selling all manner of foods, and trinkets, for example.
Fishing, etc. , is also a situation that generates income, or at the very least,,,food.

On other levels it's a beautiful place, and can be enjoyed. If one lives there, or plans to, self sufficiency and resourcefullness would be two strengths of high importance.

It's like a 3rd world country if you are out of the "resort" areas.
