The US have sold billions of dollars of armaments to Taiwan and signed a defence pact. It does not matter what the US do for Taiwan, China will still take it back. Taiwan belongs to China. The US have got no business to interfere in China.

the u.s has protected taiwan from china before, they'll protect taiwan again if it needs to be protected.
