For starters, don't look like a potential victim! Wall tall, head up and alert! Look around, be aware of your surroundings. Don't be afraid to make a scene (scream your head off) if someone invades your personal space or seems menacing. All women should take a self-defense class of some sort. You don't have to become a black belt, but you should know tactics like gouging eyes, genitals and other soft spots. A stiletto heel to an attacker's instep just might save your life.
