If you heer a rattle type noise coming from your exhaust, then more than likely, you have a catalytic converter that has come apart and it clogged your exhaust system. If exhaust fumes cannot flow freely, power will be severely restricted.

Another problem that I had that caused this problem: broken throttle postition sensor wires. The wire to the TPS sensor on my car broke, so the engine control computer never knew at what angle the throttle position was, which caused major power loss. Every now and then the power would come back as the engine control computer was receiving an intermittant TPS signal because the wire wasn't completely broken.

Any decent BMW dealer should charge you no more than $150 to diagnose your problem and give you an estimate on how much it would cost to fix.

It could be your catalytic converter has broken up inside causing excessive back pressure in your exhaust system.

You need to take $1,500.00 and the BMW to a German repair shop.

With that, they can tell you "what the problem is".

Next, give them another $1,500.00 and they may be able to repair part of the problem.

It may take another $1,500.00 and your problems will be solved.

If it requires more money, I'd suggest a lighter.

I had an Audi like that once.
