It is stipulated in the constitution that no president may be ELECTED to hold more than two CONSECUTIVE terms in office. However this does not consider a vice president that takes office due to death of the president, he could therefore Legally hold 2 and a partial term. there is also the issue of a president holding one term not being elected for a second then being elected twice consecutively after that. we fortunately have not had a president try that one. I also think by the time that they are elected they are to old to even bother with a third term.....

Depends on what you mean. If you mean how many terms, then two since the 22nd Amendment was ratified in 1951. But our system of electing Presidents is really bizarre. For all intents and purposes, every four years there are 51 elections, one in each state plus DC, held in November (some states do it earlier), and then, in December, the electoral college meets to cast their votes, generally for the winner in each state.

So the real answer to your question is that the President can, theoretically, be elected up to 52 times in a year; 104 times if he (or she) is elected unanimously twice.

The United States limits a President to two terms. However, it's unclear as to exactly how many times someone can steal an election.

My guess is that George Bush will attempt it again in 2008. If it looks like the Republicans will not win, his bosses (Cheney and Rumsfeld) will fabricate another terrorist attack on U.S. soil, and Bush will declare martial law, claiming that a change in administration would not be in the interests of national security.
