They're a little funny in the head, anyway, so I doubt if they would--they forget that these animals were specially bred just for this, and don't know how to survive in the wild, so they're just sentencing them to an even earlier, crueler death. I heard of one group that had the best intentions and freed a lobster. Unfortunately, it was a Maine lobster, and they released it into the Pacific Ocean. It didn't live long.

Well a crime is being committed in the first place as those animals are property and therefor it is theft and/or vandalism.
As far as the larger question, I think that the activists would believe that what happens in nature is fair. thereor no it would not be a crime. Albeit it would be stupidity.

No, they think we are committing the crime against the animals. A lot of radical animal activists are even opposed to keeping animals like dogs and cats for pets.
