The U.S. Collaborative Review of Sterilization (CREST) found the failure rate for tubal ligation (all occlusion methods) to be 1.85% after 10 years [1].
Because of the high rate of ectopic pregnancy, women of child bearing age who have had tubal sterilization should have a pregnancy test performed if they have not had a menstrual period. If the woman is pregnant, then she should be evaluated further for the presence of an ectopic pregnancy.

In the absence of complicating maternal conditions a pregnancy found to be within the uterus after tubal ligation (without a coexisting tubal pregnancy) would not be expected to be at increased risk for miscarriage or fetal abnormality. Here are a few things for you. YES you can still get preg! BEST WISHES!

Pregnant Video Tubes

My mom was 19 with three kids. She had her tubes tied back in 1977. I don't think they cut them or burned them back then. I think they only tied them off. About 7 years later, imagine her surprise when she turned up pregnant. She had two more children. She had her tubes tied again. This was in the mid 80's so I'm not exactly sure what the procedure was then. About 8 years after that, hum, she's pregnant again. She had 2 sets of twins and when the doc asked her if she wanted to get her tubes tied she said screw it, it doesn't work. True story! I got mine tied and I worry sometimes, but mine were cut and I saw the bits that were taken away. I don't think I'm in any danger. I did sign a paper that acknowledged that tubal ligation is NOT 100% guaranteed.

My friend had her tubes cut and they grew back together. I just had a reversal done on the 7th and the doctor told me that I had more than a 70% chance of getting pregnant. If you and your husband want to have a child then go see a doctor about what your tubes look like now and the reversal surgery. I wouldn't wait around for the tubes to come untied. That can be nerve wracking. The best of luck to both of you.

I was at my doctors office one day and A woman came in and I overheard her say do you have my test back. They said yes and she said okay can I have them and the front desk lady said yes your pregnant! That Lady just about fell over she said HOW I had my tubes tied ten years ago? The front desk person got a nurse to help explain how this could happen. The nurse said after about 10 years your tubes can come untied, but you can have your baby and have your tubes retied and burnt this time so they wont come untied. I would freak if it happen to me. Lots of luck that is a true story

Yes You Can Get Pregnant. Even If You have Your Tubes Tide It's Still Not 100%. That's What My Doctor Had Told Me. Go Talk To Your Doctor

I've never heard of them coming untied by themselves. I have had the clips myself and my doctor never gave me any reason to think that could happen. I know that you can have them taken off if you ever decide you want to get pregnant again. My sister had hers cut and tied 12 years ago and her and her husband went to their doctor to ask about getting pregnant and he said that yes depending on how they were cut and tied would allow or not allow for a future pregnancy. She was lucky and was able to have the reversal done.

Yes, in theory, but with tubal ligation, the chances of becoming pregnant after the tubes are untied is not so good.

Yes it can happen, the tube can grow back together. It don't happen often, I have all 3 done(cut, tied and brunet). I do know of a few women that have had this happen.

Your friends are wrong, provided that the operation was done by a qualified physician. I am a physician, and I doubt seriously if they could find a single real case of this happening.
