My son is 9 months, been eating a wide range of solid foods for months now and want to give him properly cooked eggs for lunch.

Is this alright?

If no why no?

Eggs, especially the whites, are often not offered until after a year old. Egg, dairy products, wheat, and soy (and peanuts, if you live in the US or if either parent is American) are highly allergenic and are best postponed until later.

At 9 months, baby can have the yolk of the egg. But don't give him egg whites until after 12 months of age. It will put him at a higher risk of developing an egg allergy.

This is a little bit off the subject, but just so you're informed. People with egg allergies are not able to receive the flu shot because of content of various proteins in the vaccine.

Egg allergies can be very severe and are caused by egg whites. If there is a family history of food allergy, you should avoid eggs completely for the first year. Otherwise, you can give the yolk from 6 months - bear in mind, though, that it's impossible to TOTALLY separate the white from the yolk and only a small amount of white can cause a reaction. First - Eggs no good for childs untill they r 1+
Second - Eggs should be hard boiled.
Third - Avoid to feed the yolk.
Fourth - Eggs are not considered as hygenic for babies.. due the presence of germs in the yolk part. Sometimes it is allergic and may become undigestable.
Wait for 6 months. try out with hard boiled eggs only, if ur baby adapts it ... u can continue.
Best of luck.

Some babies have an allergy to the egg white so its best to wait untill 1 year old untill the immune system is more developed but the egg yolk is highly nutritious and can be given to babies. Of course it is up to you but if you do decide to try then start in small amounts and look for the signs of an allergic reaction. If you are allergic yourself then i would avoid them all together. Best luck xx

Neither of my boys liked eggs when they were infants (they still don't, and they're toddlers now) but they would eat stuff with eggs in them. We started feeding them things like french toast, waffles, etc. that had eggs baked in them when they were about 9 or 10 months old. Their pediatrician said no eggs before one year (in case of an allergy) but since they had eaten stuff with eggs in them and were fine, to continue feeding it to them.

I'm not a licensed physician :) but I'd say now would be ok. Hard boiled might not be a bad way to start...you know it's cooked thoroughly and it's easy to mash/chew with mostly gums and a few teeth. :) I'd try a teeny bit at first and watch for a reaction, if not, it should be OK. Eggs are very nutritious. :)

No, Please don't give your child eggs until they are at least a year old.
If you gave them a little bit it wouldn't hurt them, but it is strongly advised that a child under a year old shouldn't be given eggs.
After a year you can give eggs, but they must be hard boiled.
Eggs have an organism that children who don't have a fully developed digestive system can't tolerate, and they don't have immunity to it. Also the risk of salmonella posioning is increased in younger kids which is why the egg has to be thoroughly cooked.

If your in any doubt you should check with your health visitor

I worked with infants for over three years. The standard rule of thumb is no eggs until 1 year old. Eggs can be a source of salmonella and thus poisonous for your baby. I know at 9 months it doesn't seem like he's still a baby, but he really is. At the earliest, you should wait until he is 11 months old. Consult your pediatrician for any other questions.

NO DON'T DO IT
Babies shouldn't have eggs until at least 12 months old, like alot of answers already they can trigger allergies. Babies immune systems aren't developed properly at nine months old. If you are ever unsure what age to give your baby something don't give it them until you have sought medical expertise.
You can always get in touch with your health visitor or pop along to a baby clinic and ask for advice about anything.

Should be fine, just keep an eye out as the yolk which is properly boiled is a bit dry on the throat, so you might have to wash the egg down with water/ milk/ juice.

I have a 4 week old son. I read in one of the many books I have that you shouldn't feed eggs to a child until they are at least 1 years old. Something about the immune system I think. I'm no expert - so perhaps it's best to check with your health visitor or doctor.
