I have a tattoo, already have the design for the second one.I used to have pierced ears and a pierced nose but I took that all out when it started becoming a fashion here and everyone, and with everyone I do mean everyone, started to get their nose pierced.
For me, tattoos and piercings are a way to be different.Thats why when I choose a design it's not something that's been done a thousand times like a dolphin or heart. And I always choose something that represents something for me,it's something I will always carry with me and i want it to have a meaning, don't want it to be just a beautiful picture.
I draw the line when you do something for someone else, and not yourself.Bigger boobs?Sure if you want them, not if your boyfriend wants them.Straighter teeth?Sure if it's something that always bothered you,not because that way you have more chances of becoming an actor, model whatever...trust me if you had what it takes, teeth wouldn't stand in the way.
Hurting yourself is a definitely no no(even though I did it too a long time ago). Not eating, starving yourself to death, cutting yourself all that, girls(and boys) it's just not worth it...enjoy your life, accept yourself the way you are,or make small, positive changes.Your body is something you always will have with you,it's the thing that carries you through this life(together with your personality that is) and even if you are 30kg if you don't learn to love it and accept it the way it is,you'll never be happy.Trust me,I know....

I think it depends on the frame of mind a person is in when they do any of these behaviours, as well as the long-term affects that could be made on the body.

For instance, if a person gets a facial piercing because he or she thinks it would look cool, that is socially accepted. If someone gets a piercing to punish themselves with the pain because they think they have done something bad, that is not socially acceptable.

As for the long-term affects part of it, this is more the pro-ana thing. A tattoo is on a person's body forever, but it only hurts once - and even then not that much. Starving one's self for months and months or even years can kill a person quickly or slowly, over many months.

I think that if a person's health is affected by whatever degree of modification that person goes through, it's too much.
Otherwise, I don't see a problem with any other type of body modding.
