Why should they be entitled to preferential treatment? I imagine they would work whatever hours are stated in their contracts and quite right.

That depends on the company policy. Most companies won't let a husband and wife work in the same department. In fact, if a husband and wife are allowed to work in the same department, usually they are NOT allowed to work the same shift or under the same supervisors.

They are not entitled to the same hours at all. Also if they are in the same department they may have to be different shifts to prevent conflicts of interest.

No matter how much you love your wife or husband I doubt you'd want to work the same shift... people need some sort of seperation =P. As someone else stated, I doubt they would let you work the same shift. Many companies won't even allow family to work together due homelife drama being brought into the work place.

,,,,,,well each person has an individual Contract of Employment which should set out your working hours. Obviously, if one of you has more responsibility than the other then that persons contract is going to be different.......if on the other hand your both doing the same work, for the same pay, then there should be no difference to working hours. If there are, and your finding it difficult to have a social life, then speak to your employer,,, they might be more responsive than you think..........

I worked in the same company as my sister and all was well until we had a family bereavement. Only one of us was allowed to take special leave for the funeral, the other had to take annual leave. It was horrible and it made us both feel guilty as we had to choose who would give up annual leave etc.
As husband and wife things could be worse, child care, family emergency will affect both of you, not just one and so you need to get this written into your contracts too.
Good luck

None, why should they be treated any different than any other employee? If they cater to the husband and wife then they would have to do the same for all employees.

No such entitlement as per law.If it is the part of agreement, then it is ok.Otherwise you have to request the employer. That is the best way.

None - but are you or whoever sure they want to work with their partners - it'll only end in tears and divorce and maybe even worse (catch one or the other cheating with a work mate - ouch)
