Ancient Greece was very important for the basis of modern thought, namely the philosophers. Also of art and mythology.

The Greeks indeed have had a profound effect on many of our everyday lives, most often with us not realizing it. Archetectural contributions include the "golden mean," a key element in building design and asthetics.
Very few know of it, out side of the Frank Lloyd Wright types. I'll defer to one of them for a more comprehensive explanation, as I am ill equipped to expand on that facet.

Because all mythology is part of our archetypes. Do you know why an echo is called an echo? Do you know who Narsissus was? Or why the area known as Europe got its name? All from Greek mythology. There is a lot more where that came from.
