I know that one is the rim size, but what are the other dimensions telling you?

The three numbers are:

1. Tread width in mm.
2. Aspect Ratio , this is the height of the tire from the end of the rim to the surface (or the sidewall), measured in percentage of the tread width
3. Rim size

Example: 245/70/16

tread width = 245 mm.
aspect ratio = 70% ( this means the height of the tire measured from the rm to the surface will be 70% of the width , 171.5 mm.)
rim size = 16 inch

example 185/70R14 first number(185) is the thickness horizontally from outside to inside the second number(70) is the thickenss Vertically from rim to outer tread and the last number is the rim size.
