A huge rise in immigration from eastern Europe next year could cause chaos in schools, hospitals and welfare services, according to a leaked report.
It also warns that ministers may be forced to abandon their refusal to grant council houses and welfare benefits to new arrivals who do not work, creating an extra "pull factor" attracting further immigrants.
The arrival of hundreds of thousands of new arrivals is already pushing down wages for workers, with potentially "serious implications"

for social discord, the document says.
It reveals that government departments have been ordered to draw up emergency plans to deal with pressure on public services from an expected "step change" in immigration levels when Romania and Bulgaria join the EU next year.
The report, written by junior Home Office Minister Joan Ryan and called Migration from Eastern Europe: Impact On Public Services And Community Cohesion, was leaked to the Mail on Sunday.
Ms Ryan says many more English teachers will be needed to deal with a huge rise in the number of eastern European children unable to speak the language.
East European patients are also already "blocking" hospital beds because they are ineligible for social care and benefits if they leave.
Meanwhile, towns and cities where large numbers of new immigrants have settled are already demanding millions of pounds of extra money to cope.
The document, marked "restricted", is dated July 19, the day after Ms Ryan submitted another report saying that 45,000 "undesirable" criminal migrants from Romania and Bulgaria may settle in Britain next year.
The number of immigrants to Britain since Poland and seven other east European countries joined the EU two years ago is now estimated at 600,000, compared with the Government's original prediction of between 5,000 and 13,000 a year. Ministers expect this number to rise by up to another 140,000 next year.

I think the British have no right to judge. What about all those second homes in Spain and France that are pushing up the prices so the locals cant afford them?

Ironic thing is that France signed up to the same agreement as England, however they said that they won't let anyone in until the agreed date in 2007. Hopefully it will die down when everyone in Europe has to let the eastern europeans work too. However England is still going to be the No.1 place to come as it is the richest and best country in Europe to live in.
the problem is that the government has to sort it out yet isn't brave enough. Migrant workers who come here to work for a couple of years then leave I can understand (this is how they described expected migrants from eastern europe to act). Its all the failed asylum seekers and permanent asylum seekers that are the problem cause they never go home... although that is presuming that the eastern europeans will go home....

This is all purely speculative, based upon the assessment of one person and little pretentious on the side of Britons, especially those on the media, why are we so sure that so many people will enter the UK when we are not even the largest home for migrant workers and asylum seekers in the EU... lets just see what happens and stop breeding raical hatred without cause.

People elect goverments. So Britain has the elected goverment it deserves. If people are xenophobes, they should elect xenophobic goverments who will protect them from immigrants. By the way, what are all the British in other countries? Are they immigrants, tourists or colonists? Did they stop to think, before they colonised India, Australia, America, Africa, Ireland etc, that the locals might object? And where did the "Brits" come from? Were they all natives of Britain?

I have two things to say. 1) Your figures are almost certainly a gross underestimate. 2) The government immigration policy is not in tatters, on the contrary, it is working perfectly. It is part of the grand plan to destroy this country, for ever. Sorry three things, I have just read your other respondents replies. ii337 is incredibly naive and fojo81 opinions are positively dangerous. It is already happening, and it hardly gets a mention on the TV media.

I dont blame anyone for wanting a better life. I do not like some of the people whom were welcomed to this country and just spout hatred for us. The ones that seem to hate us Brits the most are the children of the original emigrants if they want to go home to there motherland then let them go their parents have done their best for them and us taxpayers have paid for their education and healthcare while they grew up

Having spoken to many of the immigrants I work with, the concensus should be more of "whens the fight gonna be" than what are they going to take.
The UK govt made this rod and is gonna have to work it out before there is real problems, we still stand aside from Europe at the moment, has anyone got the balls to make a stand?
