Depends what you're into and what transport you have. The shops are like anywhere else really. The beach is lovely, tho' usually freezing. There you can ice-skate, swim, work-out, there's Codona's amusements, the pictures and lots of good (tho' pricey) restaurants. At the other end of town there's Hazlehead Park, which is OK. Or Duthie Park on the way in which has good winter gardens. A wander round old Footdee village at the harbour area's good. Not much else spectacular tho'
If you can, get down to St Cyrus beach, about 30 miles south. It's amazing (Fred MacCauley used to go to Johnshaven on holiday and still raves about St Cyrus), Take the train to Dundee for the day. It's got much more personality than Aberdeen.
there's also Stonehaven which is a good wee tourist town about 15 miles south. There you'll find Dunnottar Castle, which is spectacular.
North there's loads of castles to visit. Also Balmedie beach with impressive sand dunes.
Go east to Deeside and you won't be disappointed in the scenery. But I'd advise giving Braemar and Balmoral a wide berth. Ballater's much, much better
Hope you have a great time
Oh, and you do still get the occasional pipe band

Its a dump and I recommend you spend as little time there as possible. They have a place called Justice Mill Lane which is full of drunken oafs. They have one decent street ( union street) and everything is 10% more expensive than Glasgow/Edinburgh.
