I have lived in Nebraska, Wyoming and South Dakota, and I have never seen a cockroach in my entire life. But there are always trade-offs. We do have spiders, and box elder bugs...

cockroaches are even said to survive a nuclear explosion. That should be sufficient to prove their strenght of survival.
