At one time, other devices were touted as memory, although they were more like disks. Thus the "Random Access" part.

RAM means Random Access Memory, this is the temporary memory storage in a computer and it is working once the computer is on,except for the cmos chip where memory can be store due to the use of the battery.
In a computer once it is off the temporary stored memories are lost.Ram is the primary memory storage in a computer,a point to note is that a computer can not boot without ram.
I hope it is a bit of a help
Cheers!!!!!!!!!

RAM is The short form of Random Access Memory. It needs electricity to work and all it's data will be lost if you cut off the power e.g. by turning your computer off. All of the computers need RAM to work. CPU can only receive data from and send information to RAM.
So RAM relates CPU to the other parts of the computer.
